Job Description: Veterinary Medicine - Animal Health Management - Animal Shelter Resource Manager
Position Overview:
The Animal Shelter Resource Manager is responsible for overseeing the operational and administrative functions of an animal shelter, ensuring the highest standards of care and welfare for animals in the facility. This role requires extensive knowledge and expertise in veterinary medicine and animal health management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement comprehensive animal health management protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being and safety of all animals in the shelter.
2. Manage and supervise shelter staff, including veterinary technicians and animal care personnel, to ensure efficient and effective operations.
3. Collaborate with veterinarians to create and execute medical treatment plans for animals in need of care, including vaccinations, surgeries, and ongoing health management.
4. Oversee the intake and assessment process for animals entering the shelter, ensuring proper documentation, health checks, and behavioral evaluations are conducted.
5. Coordinate and facilitate the adoption process, including screening potential adopters, conducting home visits, and ensuring appropriate placement of animals.
6. Develop and implement training programs for staff and volunteers, focusing on animal handling, behavior, health, and safety.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to animal intake, medical treatments, adoptions, and other shelter activities.
8. Collaborate with external partners, such as rescue organizations and veterinary clinics, to enhance resources and support for the shelter.
9. Manage the shelter's budget, including monitoring expenses, preparing financial reports, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
10. Stay abreast of industry trends, new research, and best practices in animal health management and shelter operations to continuously improve the shelter's programs and services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Degree in Veterinary Medicine or related field.
2. Valid veterinarian license.
3. Proven experience in managing animal shelters or similar animal welfare organizations.
4. In-depth knowledge of animal health management, including veterinary treatments, disease prevention, and behavioral assessments.
5. Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a diverse team.
6. Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
7. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff, volunteers, adopters, and external partners.
8. Proficient in using animal management software and other relevant computer applications.
9. Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
